A great time was had by all on our Church Holiday in spite of the mixed weather. 13 of us travelled by minibus to Weymouth on Monday 23rd July. We made good time in spite of the bad weather and hoped that the weather would improve.
Tuesday the weather had improved and we glorious sunshine all day. The morning was spent exploring Weymouth and the afternoon passed very pleasantly as we wandered around the beautiful grounds of Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens. We then explored further along the front of Weymouth after dinner.

Wednesday morning saw us visiting Lulworth Cove (left)and on to Corfe Castle (below) via a very short ride on the Swanage Railway (right)
Most of our party had avoided the torrential rain but Alan, Howard, Hilary and Judi were on the top of the castle when the heavens opened and we got soaked.
We intended going on to visit Dorchester but the rain was too heavy so we headed back to Weymouth.
On the way back we visited Wyevale Garden Centre for a warming 'cuppa' and for some 'a piece of comfort food' in the shape of chocolate cake!! In the evening we all went to the Pavilion Theatre for a show 'One Night in Vegas' which was very enjoyable.
On Thursday the weather was better and after a time spent in Weymouth we visited Athelhampton House and gardens. After a short tour of the gardens, due to the wet weather, we explored the house and had a very pleasant lunch in the cafe before making our way back to Weymouth. Once there we made our way to Brewers Quay where we visited all the various craft shops etc.
Friday morning dawned bright so we travelled to Portland Bill to take photos of the views, and then on to Hive Beach Cafe, 3 miles outside of Bridport, for lunch. It was cold and very windy as the weather had deteriorated again, but that didn't stop us enjoying a very good lunch.
In the afternoon we drove to Dorchester and this time the weather was kinder to us and we were able to wander around the shopping centre. In the evening we all went to the Bowling Alley. Alan had never bowled before but that did not stop him from beating everyone else!!
Saturday saw us all packed up for the journey home. The weather was beautiful of course as we left Weymouth and we had a good journey home.
We do want to say a big 'THANK YOU' to Howard and Hilary for all the organising and to Pete for driving us around all week.
