Girls Brigade activities
December 2010

Flower pots, decorated with pasta and buttons by explorers and juniors and then sprayed gold, are waiting to be planted with crocuses to give to an elderly person.

Shoe boxes, wrapped and packed with Christmas gifts by the girls, are ready for Samaritan's Purse - Operation Christmas Child to show God's love to needy children.

13 July 2008 "Junk to Treasure"
For our recycling project "Junk to Treasure" we have made bags
from unwanted clothes and pincushions from coffee/chocolate jar lids.

We have also collected plastic milk bottle tops, towards a wheelchair,
and aluminium cans and used stamps.
Girls' Brigade March 2008
We were able to take part in our recent Girls' Brigade Parade service with a sketch which was an up to date interpretation of the meaning of the Parable of the Sower. This was part of the work that the girls are doing on Bible Drama at the moment. We were also able to present the girls with their awards for the past year.
Girls' Brigade December 2007
Girls' Brigade and their friends recently enjoyed an 'Evening of Light' with music, games, craft, cake, lights and sparklers continuing the theme and emphasising that Jesus said we should let our lights shine.
4 March 2007 - Girls Brigade win shield
The girls of our Brigade have won a shield for writing 2 songs and a poem. Our girls worked very hard to write a poem on Creation and the words for two songs on the birth of Jesus for the Leicestershire District Girls' Brigade Bible Competition, as part of their Spiritual Project last year and they won the Trophy for the company which gained the most points. The shield was shown to the congregation at our All Age Worship and Girls' Brigade Parade Service today and the songs and poem were performed for us. We congratulate the girls and are very proud of them as our group is one of the smallest in the county.
The girls take part in 4 projects during the year - Educational, Service, Spiritual and Physical. At present the girls are studying Natural History for their Educational Project and are creating a Nature Diary. They are also carrying out an in-depth study of seashells and how to identify them. They have also studied birds and flowers and have folders of the drawings they have made.
For their last Service Project the girls held a Coffee Evening in June 2006 which was very well attended and for which the girls had made lots of items for sale.
In 2006 the girls also collected cans, aluminium foil, old mobile phones and used inkjet cartridges to raise funds to save for a guide dog. They are still saving these items for Brigade funds so if you have any of these items please bring them along and see Captain Beverley Sutton or Cynthia Bowley.
